A conglomerate led by Japan’s Marubeni is to build the 605,600 m3/day desalination station, a further step in the Emirate’s privatisation process. Dubai is launching a €10 million project to reduce salt levels in groundwater. In December, it commissioned Nymphéa Water from France to prospect undersea freshwater springs off the Dubai and Abu Dhabi coast. At the same time, Dubai has been working since October on a wastewater treatment station project at Jebel Ali which should be built by 2008 and double current treatment capacity.
